OpenRent alerts without waiting for tomorrow's email

OpenRent is where landlords list directly, which is why it moves fast, and why a daily alert email is the wrong tool for it.

One-time payment · No subscription · Runs on your own machine

A daily email for a market that turns over in hours

OpenRent's model is what makes it worth watching: landlords list directly, without an agent in the middle, which means lower fees and, very often, a property that is live before anything equivalent reaches a portal. The flip side is that enquiries go straight to a person's inbox, and that person stops reading it once they have enough viewings booked.

OpenRent's own help centre describes the email alerts as going out up to once a day for new properties matching your search, with each property notifying you once when it is first listed. Its app offers push notifications, which are quicker. If you are on email, you are on a daily cycle for a listing type where the first ten enquiries are the ones that get a viewing.

Notifio watches your OpenRent search results page every 30 seconds. It compares each check against the last, and when a property appears that was not there before, you get an email with a direct link, while the landlord's inbox still has room in it.

Setting up an OpenRent monitor

Example search URL

https://www.openrent.co.uk/properties-to-rent/bristol?term=Bristol&prices_max=1400&bedrooms_min=2

An OpenRent search for Bristol, two beds minimum, up to £1,400. The term and the filters are all in the URL.

  1. 1

Search by area and set your filters

Price ceiling, minimum bedrooms, furnished, bills included, and whether you need it to accept pets, students, or housing benefit. OpenRent's filters are the ones that usually decide whether an enquiry is worth sending.

  2. 2

Copy the URL, filters and all

Everything you clicked is in the query string. If the address bar did not change when you set a filter, set it again, because an unfiltered monitor is a noisy one.

  3. 3

Paste into Notifio at a 30-second interval

OpenRent listings can collect their viewing quota inside an afternoon. This is not a site to check on a five-minute interval to be polite.

  4. 4

    Have your enquiry text ready

Because you are writing to a landlord rather than an agency, a short specific message, covering who you are, when you can view and when you can move, outperforms a long one. Write it once and keep it somewhere you can paste from.

What to know about monitoring OpenRent

Does it need a login?
Not needed to view search results. You will want an account to send enquiries, exactly as you would anyway.
How the page loads
Clean, server-rendered listings pages with readable query parameters. Reliable to monitor.
Auto-reply on this site
OpenRent enquiries go through an on-site form, which is the shape auto-reply handles best. It remains in beta, and on a direct-to-landlord site a personal message is worth more than a fast one, so consider using auto-reply here as a fallback rather than the default.

OpenRent alerts: common questions

How much faster is this than OpenRent's own alerts?

OpenRent's help centre describes email alerts as going out up to once a day. Notifio checks every 30 seconds and emails immediately, so on a property listed at 10am the difference is usually the difference between viewing it and reading about it.

Does OpenRent's app not already do push notifications?

It does, and they are faster than the email. Notifio is for people who would rather not have their housing search live in four separate apps, and who want the same alerting across OpenRent, Rightmove and everything else at once.

Is monitoring OpenRent against their terms?

Notifio loads one public search page at human intervals through a real browser, with no bulk scraping, no data extraction and no account automation beyond filling a form you told it to fill. If you are unsure how that sits with any site's terms, check them; we would rather say that than pretend the question does not exist.

Can I monitor several cities on OpenRent?

Yes. One monitor per search URL, as many as you want, all running at the same time.

Most people watch more than one site

Notifio runs every monitor at once, so OpenRent does not have to be the only search you are watching. These are the ones people usually pair it with.
